FAQ's

Does chiropractic hurt?

The McTimoney Chiropractic techniques used at the clinic are very gentle and shouldn’t normally hurt, the audible cracking sounds usually associated with chiropractic rarely occur with the techniques we use.

What happens on the first visit?

All new patients have an initial consultation lasting an hour to 1 hour 30 minutes, where a full medical history is taken along with the appropriate orthopaedic and neurological tests to help diagnose your problem. Once all of the tests are completed the chiropractor will discuss the findings and, if chiropractic care is appropriate, a treatment plan is agreed upon and you will receive your first treatment (adjustment) at this time.

How many treatments will I need?

Every case is different, but, as a general rule, patients who are suffering from acute problems (of less than 8 weeks duration) normally respond well with between 4 and 8 treatments. Chronic conditions (over 8 weeks old) may take longer to correct. Since your body is doing the healing, not the chiropractor, results will naturally vary from person to person.

Do I need a GP referral?

No, however as chiropractors are primary healthcare practioners they do work closely with GPs and other allied healthcare professionals, and will refer you on for further specialist advice if necessary.
